Veterinary Roles in Rabies Investigations & Exposures
This RACE approved course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of veterinarians and veterinary technicians in rabies investigations and exposures.
We will begin the day with a review of the rabies virus, routes of transmission, regional and statewide statistics,
and current treatments.
We will then go through all of TX Health & Safety Code, Chapter 826 & TX Administrative Code 169. Students can expect to gain a better understanding of the laws governing the control of rabies. This will provide students with a full understanding of what the state has laid out as the minimum requirements for the control of rabies in Texas.
We will discuss what the responsibilities of the Local Rabies Control Authority are and how their role and responsibility will intersect with veterinary professionals for all types of rabies investigations including animal bites to humans, animal vs. animal exposures, and rabies preparation and submission.
