Basic ACO

The Basic Animal Control Officer (ACO) training class is specifically designed to provide new or aspiring ACOs with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in both their day-to-day duties and in preparing for the state exam. Whether you're entering the field for the first time or transitioning from another role, this course will equip you with the essential tools to navigate the challenges and responsibilities of animal control work.

This course is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and fully satisfies the training requirements for eligibility to take the state exam. It offers a review of the core principles, procedures, and regulations that ACOs must be familiar with, including animal care, legal responsibilities, ethics, public safety, and animal control laws specific to Texas.

Students will gain a thorough understanding of the laws and policies governing animal control in Texas, the role of an ACO in the community, and the tools and techniques required to perform the duties of an animal control officer effectively. The training focuses on classroom instruction and theoretical applications, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the state exam and capable of handling the everyday challenges they will face on the job.

At the conclusion of the class, students will take the state exam, which is conveniently proctored on-site at the end of the course. This allows students to immediately assess their readiness and receive their exam results before leaving class. The on-site exam ensures that students are well-prepared and confident in their ability to pass the test and move forward in their roles as Animal Control Officers in Texas.

This course is an essential stepping stone for anyone pursuing a career in animal control, offering valuable instruction and knowledge to build a successful and impactful career in the field.
